Another hard working, almost faultless performance, by the Mustangs took them to top spot in the league. The team dominated the early play and were camped in the Addiscombe half for most of the 1st period. Alex Scott constantly got space down the right up front and got around the back of the Addiscombe defence time and again. Eventually all the pressure got the result the possession had deserved and it was Alex who scored his first goal as a Mustang!
Domination continued and lots of short corners were won but not converted. Then from nowhere, Addiscombe got into our D and with their first shot scored! Andy Holder hadn’t touched the ball at all in the first half and he still hadn’t! In fact he wasn’t to touch the ball again during the match (no he wasn’t subbed, he paid his match fee and had a 1.5hr journey home!).
Half time and 1 v 1. This wasn’t good enough for all our chances and domination. The team knew that only a win would take us top. A few words of advice were offered at half time with a plea to keep the width when we had the ball.
Second half saw 5 goals for the Mustangs without reply from Addiscombe. Adam Kerven finally found his range at short corners and then further goals from Chris Dendy, Alex Scott again(!), a well taken flicked goal from a short corner by Adam and to complete the second half display Liam White scored a well taken penalty stroke.
So a successful trip to Ashburton School, where we hadn’t won before, and the colts chipping in with 4 of the 6 goals. Top of the table and a few weeks rest now so the old crocks of David Orr and Paul King can rest the injuries ready to go again in 2014.
MOM Alex Scott and thanks for coming Chris Breese! No I really mean thanks for coming as it is much appreciated you coming to Croydon to umpire.
