Reigate Priory: 3
Epsom: 3 (Marfleet, W.Hunt 2)
Epsom recorded a dramatic 3-3 draw in the local derby away at a dank Reigate Priory. Epsom started tentatively against a fired up home side and soon went 1-0 down when a loose defensive pass was picked by Reigate’s centre-forward who ran clear and scored on the reverse. Epsom started to find their rhythm and on 10 minutes Jack Marfleet converted a slick short corner routine to make it 1-1. Epsom were then on top for a spell, engineering a string of short corner and open play chances; Reigate’s keeper making three superb saves to keep it level. Having weathered this storm, Reigate then took the lead when a hard cross from the right evaded Epsom’s defence and left a simple tap in at the far post. Epsom bounced back and some neat work in the inside left channel saw James Midmer play in Will Hunt whose angled deflection made it 2-2 at half-time.
Epsom started the second half well and finally grabbed a lead in the match when Paul Atkinson jinked in from the right and squared to Will Hunt who powered home for 3-2. The game then became very stretched with both sides trading attacks and counterattacks under gloomy skies. With the minutes ticking away neither side was really opening up either defence, but with five minutes remaining Reigate won a short corner and whacked it home for 3-3. Both sides then had chances in the final stages but had to be content with a point. Epsom stayed top of the league but saw their lead cut to three points with a host of strong sides amassing behind them. They could do with an improved performance next week at home to Haslemere at 1:00pm at Old Schools Lane, all support welcome!
