Epsom Ladies 2nd XI vs Woking Ladies 2nds

AndrewM Match reports

A New Year, a new start to the season – we came to Woking aiming for our first win knowing that this was going to be a tough match. In the first half, it was end-to-end hockey, everybody worked really effectively together.  We all pushed up as a team using the wings and the speed that we had through Georgia, Hannah, Claude, Bethan and with Laura, who controlled the middle spreading it wide and running round, at one time, 3 Woking players! Liney did come close to scoring the opening goal through a Woking own goal but unfortunately the umpire deemed the initial shot to be off target, therefore not a goal.

Second half came and we set out to capitalise on what we achieved in the first half. Woking gained the first short corner of the match and scored from a well worked set play, but this did not get us down.  Our first goal came from a great run by Claude down the right wing who then hit it across the goal where Hannah slotted the ball into the back left corner. The next few minutes afterwards we had a few difficult moments in defence, but Nettie kept the defence in shape and Sarah, somehow, managed to get the ball out of some very tricky situations! Our second goal, started from the defence, Zoe dribbled through several Woking players who then played the ball up field to the midfields and forwards which got turned over but with her quick reactions, Claude regained the ball and layed it off to Cat who slotted it around the keeper into the back of the goal.

Well done to Zoe who got M.O.M and to Pam who umpired for us! We deserved this win, and it showed on our faces as everyone put in 100% in the match. Lets keep this momentum going forward to the next match!
